Cakes were baked, Marathons were run, car boot sales took place, donations of clothes were made and many more donations given which meant that we were set for another adventure in South Africa. Bristol City and Bristol Rovers Football Clubs donated football strip so that the children could have a match when we arrived later in the year. Football strip ready for packing ![]() We were able to buy music CDs with money donated in memory of Joyce Demmery, a lifelong member of St James’ Church Mangotsfield. Joyce was looking forward to our return in 2005 as she was so interested to hear about the children. Unfortunately, the news of Joyce’s death reached us just as we were boarding the plane. We give many thanks to Joyce’s family. A surplus laptop computer and several desktops were donated by two members of the congregation at Christ Church Downend. These were then handed over to another volunteer who works with ICT in schools in Bristol. He was able to adapt them. The children of Christ Church had a sponsored run instead of their usual Sunday morning study, raising a wonderful amount which was used to buy puppets and books to be divided between the Dihlabeng and Mojelafo Schools. Puppets to take to Clarens
The children of Christ Church Infant and Junior Schools and Red Oaks Community School in Swindon, donated pairs of pants so we were able to take over two thousand pairs to be distributed between many grateful children in the schools, the townships, local churches and across the border to very poor children in Lesotho. Our bags were packed to the full and we set off for our second visit to Clarens. |
